Pod (Group) of Orcas Eat a Seal

Orca Sounds

Pod Attacks Common Dolphins

  • Orcas use "spyhopping" to spy on their prey and make large waves up to 35 mph to knock their prey off ice.

  • Killer whales use sound as a function for communication and navigation while using echolocation.

  • Killer whales travel in pods, or groups. Resident pods are bigger, being somewhere between 5 to 50 whales, whereas transient pods are around 12 more or less.
